About the Dawn Chorus Day
A very special time in the nature and wildlife calendar. Come and join us for an early start to catch the sunrise and listen to birdsong, led by an expert ornithologist, David Scattergood We’ll return to the Whistlewood Roundhouse to sit, relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked by Suburban Peasant, Andy Mason.
About David Scattergood, the Ornithologist
David has been a keen birdwatcher for some 45 years now. He started off at 7 years of age seeing birds in the garden and on countryside walks with his family – soon learning to identify all species around the Stretton area where he grew up, (including teaching himself the calls & songs), then similarly the seaside birds on his holidays, before birding around most of the UK once old enough to drive.
Since teenage years he has expanded his knowledge to all British Wildlife including Butterflies, Dragonflies, Moths, Mammals, Flowers & Trees.
In more recent years he has travelled all over the UK “twitching” rare birds, and has been birding into France & Finland too.
This is all as a hobby as his work is as an Environmental technician (which also sends him up and down the country), monitoring for water contamination or nuisance dust levels at various business sites (often in places with wildlife to see – if there is time!).
About Andy Mason, the Suburban Peasant
A great advocate for living sustainably and providently, with a large slice of creativity, Andy has spent many years running his own pottery studio, teaching, facilitating workshops and developing his manual craft skills.
In 2015, using these transferable skills, he took an enthusiastic leap and became a self-styled chef. He sells his food at festival markets, and through his ‘pottery and food pop-up restaurant’ concept, creating delicious combinations of ingredients and flavours, with a keen eye on nutrition.
He home cooks every day for himself and family, often using fresh and preserved produce from his small garden.
