Hedgerow Heroes – 8 November 2022
10am – 3pm
Want to learn traditional hedging techniques?
On Saturday 5th & Tuesday 8th November from 10am-3pm, we’ll be at the fantastic Whistlewood Common to lay a section of hedgerow, which is a traditional way of managing hedges as both habitat and farm/land boundaries. These two days have been organised in conjunction with CPRE, The Countryside Charity, who are aiming to create, restore and maintain 4,000 more miles of hedgerow across the UK by 2050 to help tackle the global climate emergency.
These volunteer conservation tasks will run from 10am-3pm and all necessary training & tools will be provided. TCV staff are fully first aid trained, and if you want to come along but have concerns about a disability or illness, please contact us for a chat and we’ll see how we can best accommodate you. Volunteers are welcome to come for only part of the day if you have other commitments elsewhere.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, and new volunteers are most welcome so why not come and join us? Please wear suitable clothing & footwear (steel toe-capped boots or sturdy hiking boots) for working outdoors, and bring your own lunch as well as we will stop for tea/coffee and lunch during the day.
The best place to park is on site at Whistlewood Common (post code DE73 8DH), the entrance to which will be on the right halfway down the track to Melbourne Animal Farm. The grid reference for the site entrance is SK 37144 24731 or ///computer.snail.eventful if you use What3Words.
Should you need a lift to & from the work site, we will stop at Chiswell Drive in Coalville at 9:30am.
If you are interested in attending or have any questions about the task, please contact Jack Riggall at firstname.lastname@example.org.
