About Mental Health First Aid
We all have mental health, just as we have physical health. And just like our physical health may need taking care of from time to time, it’s the same with our mental health. Our one day mental health first aid workshop is designed to act as an introduction to some of the most common mental health issues, giving you the knowledge and skills to help identify and assist people struggling with their mental health.
The workshop will cover:
– What is mental health?
– The stigma around mental health and the barriers to openly discussing our mental health
– The most common types of mental health : depression, anxiety, PTSD, Addiction, Bipolar and other psychosis
– How to approach someone if you are concerned about their mental health
– Mental health toolkit for supporting someone else
– How to self care, including protecting against compassion fatigue and burnout
– Developing a culture of support around mental health
At the end of the workshop you will be a certified Mental Health First Responder, with the knowledge and resources to provide first level response, whether that’s within the workplace, home or social environment. You’ll have the confidence and skills to identify and support others with their own mental health, as well as being more aware of your own.
The workshop consists of a mixture of presentation work, small group exercises and larger group discussion. You will be given a mental health first responder manual to take away with you and at the end of the course you will be presented with your mental health first responder certificate. This is a certified workshop and counts as CPD, to the value of 7 hours.
