30 September/1 October 2023
9.45 am – 4.00 pm
A ‘live’ pottery experience with Andy Mason
£130
Come and enjoy the Japanese art of Raku at Whistlewood
A pottery process that inevitably brings excitement and suspense through glazing and firing handmade pots.
You’ll be guided through a variety of creative glazing methods, combining tradition with Andy’s individual techniques. Dramatic kiln firings follow, and your pots finally emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku – a fusion of subtle earthy tones, metallic effects and rich deep colours.
This weekend workshop offers time to explore alternative methods to create interesting surface texture and colour.
You’ll also be treated to some flavourful Japanese inspired lunches!
Workshop leader Andy Mason has developed his technical skills and knowledge over many years, sharing his inspiration and insight of the creative practice and ancient rituals of Raku.
No previous experience required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku!
6 (biscuit fired ) pots provided over the whole weekend for each participant.
