About Raku Pottery and the Tea Ceremony
A great opportunity to join this fascinating workshop creating your own Raku pottery and soaking up the ambience of The Tea Ceremony. In 16th century Japan the ‘way of tea’ inspired the making of Raku tea bowls blending folk art aesthetics and ancient rituals associated with Zen Buddhism and Shinto.
You’ll be guided through making a series of tea bowls using traditional hand-forming methods, and a variety of intriguing techniques to enliven the shape and surface.
As we break for relaxation, Andy will present his own interpretation of the tea ceremony whilst sharing his enthusiasm for the ancient Japanese tea and pottery traditions.
A Japanese buffet will be available to complement your tea drinking.
Applying creative glazing techniques, the unique character of Raku will be revealed through the exciting drama of live kiln firings!!.. A selection of Andy’s biscuit fired pots will be available, extending your range of options.
A truly memorable experience awaits!
- £10.00 per person per day separate charge for the buffet – vegetarian & gluten free options
- £14.00 if buffet booked for both days
- £5.00 separate charge for camping.
