Current Prices per night: Camping/Campervan pitch – £12, Yurt Hire – Monday-Friday – £40, Yurt Hire – Friday/Saturday/Bank Holidays – £50. Exclusive Overnight Hire – £130

Whistlewood can accommodate both off-grid camping and Yurt Hire and has a beautiful Camping field in which our Yurt sits, surrounded by trees, with views of the surrounding countryside.

Close to our composting toilets, communal fire pit, barbecue and kitchen facilities there is the following which is also included in your hire:

• access to our Covered Shelter
• access to our Natural Play area for your children with Willow Dragon
• ten acres of space to explore!

Tell me more about the Yurt

Our 16 ft Yurt sits in a dell in the camping field. It is fully furnished with a couch that converts to a double bed for couples. It has a log-burner to keep you cosy warm and a bundle of firewood is included in the hire price. There is a fireguard which you can use to keep your little ones safe.

It can accommodate more: sleeps 4 adults comfortably, 6 if you are great friends and could accommodate a party of 2 adults and 6 small children if you are feeling brave for a children’s overnight party!

You would just need to bring the bedding for the bed and any additional blow-up/camp beds you require.

Our Yurt is normally available for hire during May to October (weather dependant). If you are looking for hire at other times please do contact us and we will see if we can accommodate your needs.

Prices quoted are for the Yurt not per person.

Can I hire the Yurt during the day?

Yes, of course – it makes a lovely space for a small meeting, class, therapy session, etc. It can seat 8 – 10 people in a circle. Please enquire about the current rates for daytime hire by emailing mailto:bookings@whistlewoodcommon.org

Camping Information

We are relaxed as to where tents can be pitched and you can even hire and bring in glamping solutions for your event or hire our tents (you would need to erect and take down the tent) if you are new to camping and would like to give it a go.

For those who are keen campervanners we can accommodate you too and have been known to accept the odd caravan and motorhome too! A camper van is treated like a camping pitch for pricing.

Prices quoted are per tent not per person. If you have a tent that sleeps more than 10 people then you would need to pay for 2 camping pitches.

I just want to pitch one tent – can you accommodate this?

We can’t normally accommodate just one tent being pitched at Whistlewood. We would look for at least 4 tents being pitched and/or the Yurt being hired to open the site out for hire overnight. Please do enquire though if you would like to pitch just one tent and we could see how this could be accommodated with other campers.

General Information for Camping and Yurt Hire

How long is the hire for for overnight stays?

Check in is normally at 4.30 pm and check-out is 10.30 am the following day. If you would like longer on site we can certainly see if this can be accommodated and we would then quote you an hourly rate for the additional hire. We can sometimes accommodate more than one night of hire.

We set aside at least one weekend a year for dedicated family camping. This is where no other events are held over the weekend, Whistlewood literally becomes a campsite for the weekend and you can stay as long as long as you like over that weekend. Please look out for this weekend being advertised on our shop.

Will there be others on site?

There could be. If you would like to enquire about exclusive hire then please do so. The exclusive rate is equivalent to the hire of the Yurt and 6/7 tents or, if you would prefer to just stay in tents, then it is the equivalent of 12 tents. If your hire is likely to be more than the Yurt and 10 tents then please contact us for a separate quote. Exclusive hire would mean that you have the site to yourself during the times described above.

What else do I need to be aware of?

To fit in with our ethos we encourage you to think about how you will minimise rubbish during your hire, we do not have a rubbish collection so any rubbish produced will need to be taken off site.

If you are having a celebration overnight party, we are more than happy for you to decorate the shelter. We discourage the use of balloons on site  because of their effect on wildlife but do encourage the use of lots of paper decorations!

We have a rainwater collection system but recommend that all water is boiled before drinking. You may wish to bring some drinking water for your hire.

So how do I make it happen?

Pick a date or 2 when you would like to come and stay at Whistlewood and enquire by emailing bookings@whistlewoodcommon.org

Let us know what you are looking for eg, Yurt Hire, Yurt Hire and 2 tents, exclusive hire.

We will then respond and direct you back to this page to pay. Your booking will not be confirmed until payment is made. We will then contact you closer to your hire date with all the information you need for your stay.

For exclusive hire we would look for payment of a deposit of 50% of the cost of hire upon booking with a final payment 2 weeks before the event. If your booking is less than a month before taking up exclusive hire then payment in full will be required.

We understand that at the time of booking you may not know how many tents are likely to make up your party so we are happy that if you are not asking for exclusive hire that you may need to pay for additional tents at a later date. This you can do through the shop too. The first payment would form a deposit.
